Devotional: Genesis 2:21

“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;”

Genesis 2:21

Reflection

Genesis 2:21 paints a beautiful picture of intentional creation and deep care. Here, we see God orchestrating a profound moment for Adam, placing him in a deep sleep before creating Eve. This wasn't a casual nap; it was a divine anesthesia, a preparation for something wonderful to emerge from within him. This passage reminds us that sometimes, God puts us into a 'deep sleep' – times of waiting, uncertainty, or even discomfort – to create something new and essential in our lives. Often, it's in these quiet, vulnerable moments when He is doing His most significant work, shaping us, refining us, or preparing us for a new relationship or calling. Trust that even when you feel 'asleep' to what God is doing, He is actively and lovingly at work, building something incredible from what's already within you.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your meticulous care and intentional design shown in creation. We pray for trust in those moments when we feel like we are in a 'deep sleep,' waiting for Your next move. Help us to remember that even in times of vulnerability or uncertainty, You are actively at work, carefully crafting and preparing us for Your perfect plan. Open our hearts to receive what You are building within us and around us. Strengthen our faith to believe that what emerges from Your hands is always good and purposeful. Amen.
