Devotional: Genesis 1:18

“And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.”

Genesis 1:18

Reflection

Genesis 1:18 reveals a divine order and purpose. God established day and night, precisely dividing light from darkness, and declared it 'good.' This isn't just a cosmic blueprint; it's a profound truth for our lives. We often encounter seasons of light and shadow, moments of clarity and confusion, joy and sorrow. It's easy to feel overwhelmed when darkness descends or to question God's presence in difficult times. But this verse reminds us that God is sovereign over both. He doesn't just permit the darkness; He rules over it. Just as He deemed the division of light and darkness 'good,' He works even our challenging circumstances for His good and our growth. We can find peace knowing that our lives are not random, chaotic events, but rather orchestrated by a loving God who sees purpose in every season. Trust His hand, even when the path ahead is dim, for He promises to lead us through.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your magnificent wisdom and power, evident in the creation of day and night. Thank You for bringing order out of chaos, and for ruling over every aspect of our lives, both light and darkness. Help us to remember that even in challenging seasons, You are present and working all things for good. Grant us the faith to trust Your divine plan, to see Your hand dividing our light from our darkness, and to rest in the assurance that Your purposes for us are always good. Amen.
