Devotional: Genesis 18:13

“And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?”

Genesis 18:13

Reflection

Sarah's laughter in Genesis 18:13 wasn't malicious; it was the echo of disbelief in the face of what seemed impossible. How could a woman beyond childbearing years have a baby? Her human understanding simply couldn’t grasp God’s boundless power. So often, we find ourselves in similar situations. We look at our circumstances, a chronic illness, a fractured relationship, a daunting financial struggle, and our first reaction is to doubt. We laugh, not out of scorn, but because our logic can't reconcile the promise of God with the reality we see. Yet, God's question to Abraham, 'Wherefore did Sarah laugh?', wasn't a rebuke, but an invitation to trust beyond reason. It’s a gentle reminder that His plans aren't limited by our human limitations or our past experiences. What 'impossible' promise is God speaking into your life today? Let His question lead you not to doubt, but to renewed faith in His incredible ability to bring the miraculous to pass. Hold onto the truth that with God, nothing is impossible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we confess that like Sarah, we often find ourselves questioning Your promises when they seem too grand or our circumstances too challenging. Forgive our moments of doubt and disbelief. Help us to remember that Your power is infinite and Your love for us is unfailing. Strengthen our faith, Lord, to believe in the impossible, to trust in Your perfect timing, and to open our hearts to the miracles You long to perform in our lives. May our laughter turn from doubt to joyful anticipation of Your divine hand at work. Amen.
