Devotional: Psalms 90:14

“O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”

Psalms 90:14

Reflection

Psalm 90:14 opens with a heartfelt plea: "O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." This isn't just a casual request; it's a deep longing for God's presence and provision right from the start of our day, our week, our life. We often chase after fleeting satisfactions – a new gadget, a perfect vacation, or a career milestone – only to find that the joy is short-lived. But here, the Psalmist points us to the only true source of lasting contentment: God's mercy. When we invite God to satisfy us with His mercy 'early,' we're essentially saying, 'Lord, be the first and foremost in my life. Let Your grace and compassion be the foundation of everything I do and experience.' This radical shift in perspective opens the door to a joy and gladness that endures, not just through the good times, but through every season. Let's make an intentional effort today to seek His mercy first, allowing it to permeate our hearts and transform our outlook, so that true rejoicing becomes our daily reality.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, echoing the Psalmist's plea. Satisfy us early with Your boundless mercy. Let Your grace be the first thing we encounter each morning, the foundation of every thought and deed. We confess our tendency to seek satisfaction in earthly things. Forgive us, Lord, and reorient our hearts towards Your unfailing love. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may truly rejoice and be glad in Your presence, not just for a moment, but all the days of our lives. May our joy be a testament to Your goodness. Amen.
