Devotional: Leviticus 8:32

“And that which remaineth of the flesh and of the bread shall ye burn with fire.”

Leviticus 8:32

Reflection

Leviticus, often seen as a book of detailed laws and rituals, offers us glimpses into the heart of God and principles for living a holy life. In chapter 8, we see the consecration of Aaron and his sons as priests. After the sacrifices, the remaining flesh and bread were to be burned. This wasn't merely waste disposal; it was a symbolic act. It signified that God deserved the entirety of their worship and that nothing from the sacred act should be casually discarded or treated as common.

For us today, while we no longer offer animal sacrifices, the principle remains. What 'remains' in our lives after we've given our best to God? Do we treat our talents, time, and resources as things to be hoarded or casually used, or do we recognize that even the 'leftovers' can be consecrated for His glory? This verse calls us to a complete devotion, a recognition that every part of our lives, even what we might consider insignificant, belongs to Him and should be handled with reverence and purpose. Let us consider how we can offer our whole selves, without reservation, to the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the timeless lessons found in Your Word. Forgive us when we hold back parts of ourselves, treating Your sacred call with less than full devotion. Help us, like the instructions given in Leviticus, to offer You our entirety – our time, our talents, our resources, and our very lives. May everything that 'remains' within us be consecrated for Your glory and purpose. Stir within us a heart that seeks to honor You in every aspect, treating nothing as common or unworthy of Your sacred consideration. Amen.
