Devotional: Leviticus 7:21
“Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any abominable unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.”
Leviticus 7:21
Reflection
Leviticus 7:21 gives us a vivid picture of the importance of purity in approaching God. While ancient Israel had specific rules about ritual uncleanness, the underlying principle still resonates deeply with us today. When we come before a holy God, our hearts and lives should reflect a desire to honor Him. In our modern context, 'unclean things' might symbolize sin, unconfessed wrongdoings, or attitudes that separate us from God's presence. Just as touching an unclean thing prevented someone from participating in communal worship, so too can allowing sin to fester hinder our spiritual walk and communication with our Creator. This isn't about earning God's love, but about recognizing His holiness and striving to live in a way that aligns with His loving character. Let's examine our own lives for anything that may be hindering our full fellowship with Him, and through grace, seek to draw near with clean hands and a pure heart. We are called to be set apart, reflecting His light in a dark world.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You acknowledging Your infinite holiness. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have allowed 'unclean things' – be they sins, ungodly attitudes, or things that separate us from Your perfect will – to enter our lives. Cleanse our hearts, we pray, and purify our intentions. Help us to recognize anything that hinders our walk with You and give us the strength and courage to turn away from it. Draw us closer to You, that we may offer You our worship and lives that are pleasing in Your sight. May our daily living reflect Your glory and our devotion be unblemished. In Jesus' holy name, Amen.
