Devotional: 2 Kings 3:14

“And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.”

2 Kings 3:14

Reflection

In 2 Kings 3:14, Elisha's words to King Jehoram reveal a powerful truth about God's presence and our spiritual discernment. Elisha, a man intimately connected with God, was able to see beyond the superficial. He recognized that while Jehoram, king of Israel, was a unfaithful ruler, King Jehoshaphat of Judah was a righteous man whose presence moved God's prophet to act. This reminds us of the importance of surrounding ourselves with people who honor God. Their faith can often create an atmosphere where God's grace and blessings can flow, even into challenges we face. Are there people in your life who, like Jehoshaphat, bring a divine favor simply by their godly presence? Let us strive to live in such a way that our own lives, too, reflect God's presence and encourage those around us. Our faith can be a conduit for God's blessings, not just for ourselves, but for others too. How might God want to use your faithful presence today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Elisha, who lived in such close communion with You. Help us, Lord, to cultivate a similar discernment, to see people and situations through Your eyes. Grant us the wisdom to choose our companions wisely, valuing those who genuinely seek Your face. May our own lives be a reflection of Your presence, bringing light and grace to those around us. Holy Spirit, guide us to be instruments of Your blessing, always looking for opportunities to encourage righteousness and draw closer to You, for Your glory. Amen.
