Devotional: Genesis 25:21
“And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.”
Genesis 25:21
Reflection
Isaac and Rebekah faced a deep challenge: barrenness. This wasn't just a physical hurdle; in their culture, it carried significant social and spiritual weight. Yet, Isaac didn't despair or blame. He "intreated the LORD." This isn't a casual request; it means he pleaded, he interceded, he poured out his heart to God. And what was the result? "The LORD was intreated of him." God heard. God responded. Rebekah conceived.
This story reminds us that even in our deepest, most persistent struggles, God is attentive to the cries of His children. We all have 'barren' areas in our lives – dreams unfulfilled, prayers unanswered, situations that seem impossible. Isaac's example encourages us to persist in prayer, to trust in God's timing and His perfect plan. Our faithful, heartfelt petitions matter to Him, and He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You today with hearts open and sincere, just as Isaac did. We present to You the 'barren' places in our own lives – the unmet needs, the seemingly impossible situations, the long-held hopes. We confess our sometimes-faltering faith and ask for Your strength to persevere in prayer. Hear our petitions, Lord, and in Your perfect timing and wisdom, respond according to Your loving will. Help us to trust that You listen and that You are able to do beyond what we can conceive. Amen.
