Devotional: Job 11:12
“For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.”
Job 11:12
Reflection
Job 11:12 presents a humble, almost stark, reminder of our human limitations. Zophar, perhaps not entirely charitably, suggests that humanity, left to its own devices, strives for wisdom but is inherently flawed, like a wild donkey's colt – untamed, impulsive, and lacking foresight. While this may sound harsh, it offers a crucial truth: true wisdom doesn't originate within ourselves. Our inherent human nature, often driven by pride and self-sufficiency, can lead us astray when we attempt to navigate life without divine guidance. This verse encourages us to relinquish our attempts to be self-wise and instead humbly turn to God. He is the fount of all true wisdom, able to transform our untamed spirits and guide our steps. When we acknowledge our need and seek His understanding, He fills us with a wisdom that transcends our natural capabilities, leading us to peace and purpose.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we confess our human tendency to strive for wisdom in our own strength, often like the wild ass's colt, untamed and prone to error. Forgive us for our pride and self-reliance. We earnestly seek Your wisdom, Lord, for it is the only true and perfect wisdom. Guide our thoughts, actions, and decisions today. Help us to humble ourselves before You, acknowledging our need for Your divine insight in every aspect of our lives. May Your Spirit lead us, transforming our hearts and minds to reflect Your truth. Amen.
