Devotional: Exodus 15:11
“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?”
Exodus 15:11
Reflection
Exodus 15:11 paints a magnificent portrait of our God, setting Him apart from anything we might call "god." The Israelites, having just witnessed the Red Sea parting, burst into this song of praise, fully aware that no power, no deity, no force could compare to the Creator of the universe. He is glorious in holiness, meaning His very nature is pure, perfect, and set apart. He is fearful in praises – not terrifying in a negative sense, but awe-inspiring; His majesty evokes reverent wonder when we acknowledge His acts. He is continually "doing wonders."
In our own lives, when we face challenges that seem insurmountable, or when we feel overwhelmed by the 'gods' of our modern age – success, possessions, reputation – remember this verse. Our God is still doing wonders. He is still glorious in holiness, inviting us into His presence. He is still worthy of our deepest awe and praise. Let this truth anchor your faith today, reminding you that you serve a God who is infinitely greater and more capable than you can imagine.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You, humbled and awestruck by Your magnificence. Who is like You, O LORD, among all that the world calls gods? Your holiness is glorious, Your power is boundless, and Your deeds are wondrous. Forgive us for the times we look elsewhere for strength or validation. Help us to see Your hand at work in our lives, even in the smallest details. Fill our hearts with reverent praise, knowing that You are continually doing wonders, and that You are always worthy of our adoration. Amen.
