Devotional: Philippians 3:6

“Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”

Philippians 3:6

Reflection

Paul, in Philippians 3:6, gives us a profound glimpse into his past , a past marked by fervent zeal, even to the point of persecuting the early Church. He also highlights his blameless obedience to the Jewish Law. This isn't a boast, but a stark contrast to his present understanding of Christ. It reveals a crucial truth: what we perceive as 'righteousness' or 'zeal' in our own strength can sometimes be misguided, even harmful, without the true foundation of Christ's grace. How often do we, too, strive to be 'blameless' in our own eyes or within our own understanding of what God desires, only to miss the profound freedom and true righteousness found *only* in Jesus? Let this verse encourage you today to examine your own 'zeal' and 'righteousness.' Are they rooted in your efforts, or in the perfect, imputed righteousness of Christ? True spiritual growth comes not from perfecting the law, but from surrendering to His perfect love.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, reflecting on Paul's radical transformation. We confess the times we have pursued our own idea of righteousness or acted with zeal that was not truly aligned with Your Spirit. Forgive us for our self-reliance and for seeking blamelessness in our own strength. Grant us the grace to surrender deeper to You each day. Help us to see that true righteousness comes only through Your Son, Jesus Christ, and to live out our faith from a place of grace, not works. Guide our zeal, Lord, that it may always be for Your glory and kingdom. Amen.
