Devotional: Mark 10:40
“But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.”
Mark 10:40
Reflection
Mark 10:40 gently reminds us that true authority and destiny are not about jockeying for position, but about aligning with God's divine plan. James and John, in their human ambition, sought places of honor, not fully grasping the humble path Christ was on. Jesus clarifies that ultimate placement is not His to arbitrarily grant, but is reserved for those for whom it has been prepared by the Father. This takes the pressure off us to 'earn' or 'manipulate' our way to certain positions, whether in ministry, in our careers, or even within our families. Instead, it invites us into a posture of trust and surrender. Our focus shifts from grasping for glory to faithfully living out the calling God has uniquely prepared for us, confident that He knows precisely where we belong and what He has ordained for our lives. Let's embrace His sovereign hand today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging that our ways are not always Your ways. Forgive us for the times we strive for positions and accolades that are not of Your choosing. May we surrender our ambitions and desires into Your capable hands. Help us to trust in Your sovereignty, knowing that You have a perfect plan for each of us. Guide us to live faithfully in the calling You have prepared, rather than chasing after what is fleeting. May Your will be done in our lives, for Your glory and our good. Amen.
