Devotional: Luke 24:49

Imagine the disciples, fresh from witnessing Jesus' ascension, given a command that might have seemed perplexing: 'Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.' Jesus, in His infinite wisdom, knew they needed more than an assignment; they needed divine enablement. He promised them the Holy Spirit, the very power of God, to equip them for the monumental task ahead. How often do we, in our eagerness, rush into situations or tasks without pausing to seek God's anointing? We try to operate on our own strength, our own understanding, only to find ourselves weary and ineffective. This verse reminds us of the crucial step of waiting on God, allowing Him to fill us with His Spirit. When we surrender our timelines and trust in His timing, He empowers us with courage, clarity, and capability that far surpasses our natural abilities. Let's embrace the spiritual 'tarrying' today, knowing that God's power is always worth the wait.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the promise of Your Holy Spirit, the power from on high. Forgive us for our impatience and for rushing ahead in our own strength. We pray for a greater surrender to Your will and Your perfect timing. Fill us anew with Your Spirit, Lord, endue us with the wisdom, courage, and discernment we need to navigate life and fulfill the calling You have placed on us. May we always lean on Your power, not our own. Amen.
