Devotional: Mark 11:11
“And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.”
Mark 11:11
Reflection
Mark 11:11 offers a quiet, almost understated, moment in Jesus' journey. He enters Jerusalem, goes straight to the temple, and 'looks round about upon all things.' There's no dramatic confrontation yet, no immediate cleansing of the temple. Instead, we see Jesus observing, taking everything in. This moment reminds us that before action comes observation, reflection, and discernment. How often do we rush into situations, speak before listening, or act before we truly understand? Jesus, our perfect example, demonstrates the importance of a discerning spirit. He wasn't just casually looking; He was seeing with the eyes of His Father, understanding the spiritual state of His people and the place of worship. Today, let's cultivate this habit of careful observation and spiritual discernment in our own lives, allowing God to guide our gaze before we act.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Jesus, who always moved with purpose and divine insight. Forgive us for our impulsiveness, for the times we rush through life without truly seeing what You have placed before us. Grant us Your Spirit of discernment, that like Jesus in the temple, we might observe with wisdom and understanding. Help us to see people, situations, and even our own hearts through Your eyes. May our actions always be preceded by thoughtful reflection and guided by Your truth, so that we may honor You in all we do. Amen.
