Devotional: Joshua 1:18

“Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.”

Joshua 1:18

Reflection

Joshua 1:18, while seemingly harsh in its full context, ends with a powerful and enduring command: "only be strong and of a good courage." This verse, delivered to Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, reminds us that walking with God often requires immense bravery. Life throws challenges our way – uncertainties, doubts, and sometimes, direct opposition to God's will. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or to shrink back from what we know to be right. But just as God empowered Joshua, He enables us through His Spirit. His strength isn't just about physical might; it's about spiritual fortitude, steadfastness in faith, and the courage to obey even when it's difficult. Let us lean into this divine empowerment today, tackling our assignments, big or small, with the courage that comes from Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unfailing promises and for the strength You offer. We confess that at times, we falter and lack courage in the face of life's challenges. Forgive us when we shrink back from Your calling. We pray for a renewed spirit of strength and good courage, just as You commanded Joshua. Help us to stand firm in our faith, to obey Your voice, and to boldly walk in the path You have set before us. May Your Spirit empower us daily to face every obstacle with Christ-like bravery. Amen.
