Devotional: Colossians 3:2

In a world constantly vying for our attention, Colossians 3:2 offers profound wisdom, encouraging us to lift our gaze. It's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind – the endless to-do lists, the pursuit of material possessions, or even the worries that plague our minds. We invest so much of ourselves into earthly things, often finding fleeting satisfaction that quickly fades. But Christ calls us to something higher. Setting our affection on things above means aligning our hearts and minds with God’s kingdom, his values, and his eternal purpose. It’s choosing to prioritize spiritual growth, love, joy, peace, and righteousness over transient worldly desires. This isn't about ignoring our responsibilities on earth, but rather approaching them with a heavenly perspective. When our affections are rightly placed, the challenges of this world become smaller, and our purpose becomes clearer, rooted in an unshakeable hope.

Heavenly Father, we confess how often our hearts are drawn to the temporary things of this world. Forgive us for misplaced affections. Strengthen us, Lord, to set our minds and desires on you and your eternal kingdom. Help us to see life through your eyes, to prioritize what truly matters, and to live each day with an upward gaze. May our lives reflect your glory as we seek your will above all else. Amen.
