Devotional: Proverbs 12:15

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”

Proverbs 12:15

Reflection

Proverbs 12:15 presents a stark contrast between those who trust in their own understanding and those who seek wise counsel. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking our way is always the right way, especially when we're familiar with a situation or feel confident in our abilities. Yet, the Bible calls this a characteristic of a fool. True wisdom, however, is found in humility, in recognizing that we don't have all the answers and that God often provides guidance through the insights of others. This isn't just about big decisions; it's about our daily attitudes, our reactions, and how we navigate relationships. Are we open to feedback? Do we genuinely listen when a trusted friend or mentor offers a different perspective? Let's cultivate a spirit of teachability, remembering that God's plan is often revealed through the wisdom of those He has placed around us. Embracing counsel isn't a sign of weakness, but a hallmark of a growing and wise heart.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You today with humble hearts, seeking Your wisdom. We confess that often, our own way seems right in our eyes, and we can be quick to dismiss advice. Forgive us for our pride and for relying on our limited understanding. Help us to cultivate a spirit that truly hearkens to counsel, especially counsel that aligns with Your truth. Open our ears and our hearts to the guidance You provide through Your Word and through the wise individuals You've placed in our lives. May we grow in discernment and humility, always seeking Your path above our own. Amen.
