Devotional: Micah 7:5

“Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.”

Micah 7:5

Reflection

Micah 7:5 presents a stark warning, born from a time of deep moral decay and pervasive treachery. While the immediate context highlights extreme societal breakdown, its wisdom resonates even today. We are called to be wise and discerning in our relationships. It’s not a call to isolation, but to understand that ultimate trust belongs to God alone. When we place our ultimate hope and confidence in imperfect people, even those closest to us, we set ourselves up for potential disappointment, hurt, or even betrayal. This verse gently reminds us to anchor our faith in the unshakeable character of God. He is our true confidant, our unwavering guide, and the keeper of our hearts. Let's practice discernment, forgive when hurt, and always return to the One who will never fail us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You acknowledging the truth of Micah 7:5. We confess that we often place our full confidence in human relationships, leading to hurt and disappointment. Help us, Lord, to exercise discernment and wisdom in our interactions. Guard our hearts and our mouths, that we may speak truth and show grace, even when others fail us. May our ultimate trust always be in You, the One who is faithful and true. Strengthen us to forgive and to cling to Your unfailing love. Amen.
