Devotional: Exodus 14:4

Exodus 14:4 reveals a profound truth: God is sovereign, and He works all things according to His purpose, even when it involves hardening hearts. Here, He declares He will harden Pharaoh's heart, not out of malice, but so His glory will be demonstrated, and the Egyptians would know He is the LORD. This isn't about God being arbitrary; it's about His ultimate plan for revelation and redemption. In our own lives, we often face situations where things don't make sense, or we encounter resistance that feels inexplicable. This verse reminds us that God is at work even in the most challenging circumstances. He can use every obstacle, every closed door, and even hardened hearts to display His power and make His name known. Our role is to trust His overarching plan, knowing that He is always working for His glory and our good, even when the path is unclear.

Sovereign Father, we praise You for Your unfailing power and wisdom. We confess that we often struggle to understand Your ways, especially when faced with adversity or resistance. Help us to remember that You are always at work, even in the hearts of those around us and in situations that seem utterly blocked. May we trust Your perfect plan, knowing that You are glorified through every circumstance. Open our eyes to see Your hand at work, and strengthen our faith to believe that You are actively revealing Yourself to the world, and to us. Amen.
