Devotional: Matthew 5:32

“But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”

Matthew 5:32

Reflection

Jesus' words in Matthew 5:32 speak to the sanctity and permanence of marriage, a covenant designed by God. While this verse can be challenging, particularly for those who have experienced divorce, it primarily underscores God's original, perfect intention for a lifelong union. His heart is for wholeness and faithfulness within marriage. It encourages us to approach marriage with seriousness and commitment, seeking to honor God in our relationships. For those who are single, it's a reminder to approach marriage prayerfully and discerningly. For those married, it's a call to cherish, nurture, and work through challenges with God's guidance, reflecting His steadfast love. Let's ask God to help us uphold His design for marriage, whether in our own lives or in supporting others.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging Your divine wisdom in establishing marriage. We pray for all marriages, that they may reflect Your covenant love and faithfulness. For those facing difficulties, grant them strength, wisdom, and reconciliation. For those considering marriage, guide them in Your perfect will. Help us, Lord, to uphold the sanctity of marriage in our thoughts, words, and actions, seeking to honor You above all. May our relationships bring glory to Your name. Amen.
