Devotional: Matthew 5:14

Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14, 'Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.' What an incredible declaration! He's not saying we *should be* light, but that we *are* light. This isn't about our own inherent brilliance, but the light of Christ shining through us. Just like a city on a hill, our lives, when lived for Him, are meant to be visible. People are watching. Our actions, our words, our attitudes in difficult times – they all speak volumes. This verse is an encouragement to embrace our calling. We are meant to reflect God’s love and truth in a world often shrouded in darkness. Let's not shrink back or dim our light, but boldly live out our faith, knowing that even the smallest flicker can make a difference.

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us Your light in this world. Forgive us for the times we’ve hidden our light, allowing fear or doubt to overshadow Your glory within us. Help us, Lord, to shine brightly, not for our own recognition, but so that others might see Your goodness and be drawn to You. Guide our steps and words today, that they may truly reflect Your love and truth. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to be faithful witnesses, a city on a hill, visible for Your kingdom. Amen.
