Devotional: 2 Timothy 4:15

“Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.”

2 Timothy 4:15

Reflection

In 2 Timothy 4:15, Paul warns Timothy about Alexander, who 'greatly withstood our words.' This verse reminds us that not everyone will receive the message of Christ with open arms. In fact, some will actively oppose it, and even us, for sharing it. This can be deeply disheartening, and it's easy to want to retreat when faced with such resistance. However, Paul's warning isn't to be discouraged, but to be shrewd and discerning. We are to be 'aware' of those who actively seek to undermine the truth. This doesn't mean we become judgmental or unloving, but rather wise stewards of our time and energy, knowing when to persist and when to step back from arguments that bear no fruit. Let this verse encourage you to stand firm in your faith, even when met with opposition, and to pray for discernment in every interaction.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You acknowledging that sharing Your truth can sometimes lead to resistance and opposition. We pray for discernment and wisdom to identify those who actively work against Your message. Grant us courage to stand firm in our faith, even in the face of adversity, and to speak Your truth with gentleness and respect. Help us to be aware without being judgmental, and to always seek Your guidance in our interactions. Amen.
