Devotional: Galatians 5:24

“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”

Galatians 5:24

Reflection

Galatians 5:24 offers a powerful, albeit challenging, truth: true followers of Christ have 'crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.' This isn't a one-time event, but a daily surrender. To crucify the flesh means to intentionally put to death our selfish desires, our old ways of thinking, and anything that stands in opposition to God's will. It’s a call to prioritize spiritual growth over worldly pleasures, to choose integrity over indulgence. This process isn't always easy; it often requires sacrifice and a genuine dependence on the Holy Spirit. But as we continually lay our 'fleshly' desires at the foot of the Cross, we create space for the fruit of the Spirit to flourish in our lives. Today, let's reflect: what 'affections and lusts' are we still clinging to? Let us commit to crucifying them anew, embracing the freedom and new life found in Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You, humbled by the truth of Galatians 5:24. We confess that our flesh often wars against our spirit, and we struggle with affections and lusts that do not honor You. We ask for Your strength and grace to crucify our selfish desires daily. Help us, through the power of Your Holy Spirit, to surrender our will and embrace Your perfect plan. May our lives truly reflect that we are Yours, and may Your love and righteousness shine through us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
