Devotional: Philippians 3:13
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”
Philippians 3:13
Reflection
Philippians 3:13 invites us to embrace a forward-looking faith, much like the Apostle Paul. He hadn't 'apprehended' – he hadn't fully grasped the ultimate spiritual prize. This admission from such a spiritual giant is incredibly freeing. It reminds us that our spiritual journey is a process, not a destination we arrive at perfectly. How often do we get bogged down by past failures, regrets, or even past successes that keep us from pressing forward? Paul's mantra, 'forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,' is a powerful call to intentionality. It's not about denying our past, but choosing not to let it define our future or hinder our progress with Christ. Today, let's consciously unburden ourselves from yesterday's baggage and with renewed hope, stretch ourselves towards the incredible future God has promised.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the wisdom found in Your Word. We confess that we often get stuck in the past, replaying regrets or clinging to what once was. Forgive us for allowing these things to hinder our growth and our gaze towards You. Empower us, Lord, by Your Holy Spirit, to forget what lies behind. Help us to reach forth with anticipation and courage toward the future You have planned for us, a future filled with Your grace and purpose. May our lives be a testament to Your enduring faithfulness as we press onward in Christ. Amen.
