Devotional: 2 Corinthians 5:13

“For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.”

2 Corinthians 5:13

Reflection

Paul, in 2 Corinthians 5:13, gives us a glimpse into his heart and the driving force behind his ministry. Whether he was perceived as 'beside himself' in his passionate zeal for the Gospel, or 'sober' in his careful teaching, his ultimate aim was always deeply rooted in God and for the benefit of others. This verse reminds us that true Christian service isn't about maintaining a certain image or pleasing everyone around us, but about a sincere devotion to God and a selfless love for our neighbor. When our actions, even those others might misunderstand, are genuinely offered to God and have the well-being of others at their core, we are truly living out our purpose. Let us examine our own motivations today: are our words and deeds primarily for God’s glory and the edification of those around us, regardless of how they are perceived?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the example of Paul, whose life was fully committed to You and to Your people. Help us to cultivate a heart that, whether in moments of passionate service or quiet diligence, always endeavors to bring glory to Your name and to bless those around us. Forgive us for times when our motivations have been self-serving or when we've been swayed by the approval of others. Grant us the courage to live authentically for You, trusting that Your Spirit will guide our steps and purify our intentions. May our lives be a testament to Your unfailing love and grace. Amen.
