Devotional: Habakkuk 3:4
“And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.”
Habakkuk 3:4
Reflection
Habakkuk 3:4 paints a powerful, almost mysterious, picture of God's presence. "His brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power." We often desire to see God's power overtly, wanting Him to act clearly and without doubt. Yet, this verse suggests that sometimes, His greatest power is hidden, veiled even in His brightness. Think about it: when the sun is at its brightest, it can be hard to look directly at it; its intensity *conceals* its full, blinding glory. Similarly, God's immense power might not always be loudly proclaimed or overtly displayed in ways we expect. It can be quietly at work, in the subtle ways He guides us, in the peace He provides amidst chaos, or in the strength He imparts when we feel weakest. Trust that even when you don't see the overt signs, God's power is actively, powerfully at work, often just beneath the surface of what you perceive.
Prayer
Lord, we are awed by the description of Your brightness and the hidden power in Your hand. Forgive us when we look only for overt displays and miss Your quiet workings. Help us to recognize Your presence and power even when it is veiled. Strengthen our faith to trust that You are always at work, even in the unseen. May we lean into Your hidden strength, knowing that Your hand holds all things, directing and sustaining us. Amen.
