Devotional: Psalms 86:2

“Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.”

Psalms 86:2

Reflection

Psalm 86:2 is a profound cry from the heart of one who understands their identity in God. When David declares, 'Preserve my soul; for I am holy,' it's not a boast of personal perfection, but a recognition of his consecrated status through covenant with God. In Christ, we too are made holy, set apart for God's purposes, redeemed by His blood. This verse invites us to embrace that truth daily. When life’s pressures threaten to overwhelm our spirits, or doubts assail our faith, we can lean into this divine assurance. We are God’s treasured possession, and He is committed to preserving what is His. Trusting in Him isn't a passive act; it's an active reliance on His character, believing that He will indeed save and sustain His servant. Let this be your confidence today: you are beloved, you are holy in His sight, and your God is mighty to save and preserve your soul through every circumstance.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, echoing the cry of David. Preserve our souls, we pray, for in Christ, we are made holy and set apart for You. We are Your servants, Lord, and our trust is firmly placed in Your unfailing love and power. When anxieties rise and challenges weigh us down, remind us of Your constant presence and Your promise to save. Strengthen our faith, guard our hearts, and guide our steps. We lean on Your grace and believe that You will uphold us today and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
