Devotional: Matthew 5:16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

Reflection

In a world often shrouded in darkness and despair, Jesus calls us, His followers, to be beacons of light. Matthew 5:16 isn't just a suggestion; it's an invitation to live out our faith visibly and authentically. Our 'good works' aren't about self-promotion or earning favor, but rather about reflecting the love and character of God. Think about it: when you act with kindness, serve sacrificially, or speak words of encouragement, you're not just being a 'good person' – you're allowing the divine light within you to shine through. This light isn't ours to hoard; it's meant to illuminate the path for others, pointing them not to us, but to the source of all light, our Heavenly Father. So, let your compassion, integrity, and joy be undeniable. Let your life be a testament to His goodness, so that others, seeing His work in and through you, might be drawn to glorify Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the incredible privilege of being Your children and carrying Your light. Forgive us for the times we've hidden our light, out of fear or complacency. Help us to live boldly and genuinely, letting our actions, words, and attitudes reflect Your love and grace to everyone we encounter. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to perform good works that are truly inspired by You, not for our own glory, but solely that You, our Father in heaven, may be glorified. May our lives be a testament to Your unfailing goodness. Amen.
