Devotional: Joshua 1:7

“Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.”

Joshua 1:7

Reflection

Joshua 1:7 isn't just an ancient command to a warrior; it's a timeless call to each of us. God tells Joshua to be 'strong and very courageous,' not because the path ahead would be easy, but precisely because it would be challenging. This strength and courage weren't for physical battles alone, but for diligent obedience to God's law, without deviation. In our own lives, we face decisions daily, some small, some monumental, that test our resolve to follow God's truth. Perhaps it's choosing integrity over convenience, forgiveness over resentment, or stepping out in faith when fear whispers doubt. God's promise remains: when we anchor ourselves to His Word, refusing to sway 'to the right hand or to the left,' we will find true prosperity – not necessarily worldly riches, but a flourishing life rooted in His purpose, marked by His presence and peace. Let us lean into His power today, trusting that He equips us for every step.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unwavering presence and Your guiding Word. Grant us the strength and courage, like Joshua, to live in full obedience to Your commands. Help us to fix our eyes on Your truth, Lord, and to not deviate from Your path, even when it's difficult or counter-cultural. May our lives reflect Your righteousness, and may we experience the true prosperity that comes from walking closely with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
