Devotional: Nehemiah 8:10
“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10
Reflection
Nehemiah 8:10 offers us a beautiful, counter-intuitive command: "Neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength." Imagine the scene: the people of Israel, having heard the Law, were weeping, convicted of their sins. But instead of wallowing in sorrow, they were told to celebrate! This isn't a call to ignore our struggles, but to find our foundation in God's goodness, especially in challenging times. When life throws its inevitable curveballs, it's easy to let discouragement drain our energy. We might feel overwhelmed, inadequate, or just plain tired. But this verse reminds us that our strength doesn't come from our own resilience or circumstances, but from the unshakeable joy found in Christ. This joy isn't a fleeting emotion; it's a deep-seated confidence in God's love and sovereignty. It empowers us to not only face our trials but also to generously share His blessings with others, just as they were commanded to send portions to those in need. Let us choose joy today, knowing it is our divine power source.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the profound truth in Nehemiah 8:10. Forgive us for the times we allow sorrow or circumstances to diminish our spirit and strength. Help us to embrace the joy of the Lord as our true source of power, not just a feeling, but a deep assurance in Your unfailing love and provision. Grant us hearts of generosity to share Your blessings with those who lack. May Your holy presence fill us with a joy that transcends our struggles, empowering us to live victoriously for Your glory. Amen.
